George II Period Scarlet Japanned Bureau Cabinet

 
 

George II period scarlet japanned bureau cabinet. The double domed top with three gilt finials, above a fitted interior with drawers and prospect door and pigeonholes, enclosed by arched decorated doors, with decoration extending to the exterior of the door panels, with candle slides below. The bureau fall front opens to expose a similarly fitted interior of drawers, prospect door, and pigeonholes, all above drawers of graduating size, and terminating in bracket feet. The carcase basically early 18th century, the well-executed japanning probably late 19th or early 20th century.

86″ in height, with finials x 36-1/4″ in width with doors closed, 70″ with doors open x 20-1/2″ in depth, 34″ with fall front open.
