A Pair of Edo Period Japanese Abumi, or Stirrups

 
 

A pair of Japanese abumi, or stirrups. Of iron, with makie or inset decoration of grapes and grape leaves, in silver, brass, and copper. The interior in wood and red painted decoration. The grape motif was probably the mon, or personal insignia, of the man of samurai rank whose stirrups these were.

Probably late Edo period, circa 1800

Each stirrup 11″ in maximum height x 5-1/2″ in maximum width x 11-1/2″ in maximum length
