Andre Bicat (1909-1996)
The Band, 1965
Bicat was born in England of a French father and English mother. His varied career included set design in New York for Orson Welles' Mercury Theater in the 1930's. After the war, he showed regularly at the Royal Academy, Redfern, Leicester, and Leger Galleries. In later life, he was a tutor at the Royal College of Art. Queen Elizabeth II awarded him the Order of the British Empire in 1974.
