Of carved pine with a mahogany and cross banded top, the piece is also notable for its use by famed set designer George James Hopkins in the Alfred Hitchcock movie ‘Dial M for Murder’. A dramatization of the stage production, the movie starred Acadamy Award winners Grace Kelly and Ray Milland. The star connection is enhanced, though, as it was purchased from the Los Angeles gallery of former star, and progenitor of the Hollywood Regency style, designer William Haines.
