A bespoke line of furniture inspired by classic French 18th century pieces

Chappell & McCullar are pleased to present Contemporary Classics, a bespoke line of furniture inspired by classic French 18th century pieces.

The 21st century interior demands that furniture at once articulate with the objects that surround it, but still maintain sufficient visual integrity to make a statement of its own.

These extraordinary contemporary pieces are designed and executed by Chappell & McCullar to articulate with the best of 21st century interior design, and yet be resonant of the work of the finest 18th century ebenistes. Executed in Chappell & McCullar's own workshops to exacting standards of craftsmanship, each piece is bespoke and produced in very limited numbers.

The carcase of each piece is crafted from poplar, hand-shaped and joined of mortise and tenon construction. The drawer linings are all white oak and joined with hand-cut dovetails. The painted finishes and decorations are all hand applied.

Chappell & McCullar Contemporary Classics - Dubois Commode. A serpentine chest of drawers is diagonally veneered in satinwood with a bombe front terminating in a pronounced apron with slightly splayed legs to the front. The top, which extends slightly beyond the body of the commode, conforms to the contour of the commode's serpentine outline.

Chappell & McCullar Contemporary Classics - Riesener Table. Flat sided rectangular table supported on four straight legs, square in section with indented corners. The table is fitted with a single drawer shaped along the lower edge and centered with a rectangular veneered panel of mahogany, edged with double filets of ebony and satinwood and banded with ebony.

The table is fitted with a single frieze drawer shaped along the lower edge and centered with a rectangular veneered panel of ebony, edged with double filets of ebony and satinwood and banded with satinwood.

Chappell & McCullar Contemporary Classics - Christophe Low Table. The table top frame is supported on two curule legs formed by S-shaped members joined in the center by a turned wooden spindle terminating at either end in a stylized gilt metal rosette.
